The 2017 World Beard and Moustache Championships

The 2017 World Beard and Moustache Championships

Last year we delved in to the world of competitive beards when we were asked to be on the judging panel at the BBMC in Liverpool.  Never had we seen so many creative ways to grow and style the humble beard and moustache, not to mention the faux beards that were on display!  Recently the World Beard and Moustache champs took place in Austin, Texas and boy were there some impressive looks.  From long and thick to coiled or curly, every type of moustache, beard, and goatee you could imagine were present at the 2017 World Beard and Moustache Championships. The biannual competition brings together rivals from all over the globe to face the judges to see who will be crowned the best in each individual category, and who will win the highly coveted title of Best in Show.  There are 17 categories to compete in which span three main groups: moustaches, partial beard and full beard.  The groups cover everything from Dali inspired taches to the freestyle full beard where anything goes – the crazier the style, the better!

We were quite frankly in awe at some of the competitors, so we thought we’d share our favourites with you.

Overall Best in Show - Jason Kiley.  This beard is a feat of engineering!

Best in Show World Beard and Moustache Championships 2017

Natural Full Beard >45cm, 1st Prize - Michael Wollin.  The sheer length of this beard is beyond impressive and it looks to be in tip top condition, it's no wonder Micheal took away the Gold for his efforts.

Freestyle "Fantasy" Beard 1st Place - Alice Jelley.  You may recognise Alice as part of the UK outfit BILF.  Her curly cactus creation bagged her a gold belt buckle to bring back home to the UK.  Well done Alice!!

Sideburns Natural, 1st Place - Michael Wallage.  Another win for the UK, Michael's chops seen him take home another 1st place trophy

Well done to all of the competitors!! We are super excited for the British Beard and Moustache Championships next year, taking place in Blackpool on 18th August 2018.  We'll be sponsoring a category and who knows, we may be on the judging panel again!  Leave a comment if you'll be attending.
